This was a really fun week. The first few days were pretty slow with classes and on Tuesday, it was Buddha's birthday so classes were canceled. Then, from Wednesday to Friday, Yonsei held their school festival.
They put this festival on every spring semester to help the students relax a little before they start to worry about their finals coming up. A big part of the festival was a lot of the clubs on campus had tents set up and they were selling food to try and raise some money. One of the ones that I tried was a waffles with ice cream and they folded it like a taco. There were also a few stands with fruit cups which was a nice change from all the vegetables. The magic club, which a couple of the GV members (including the international students) are in were selling samgyeopsal, which is grilled pork belly. They sold out really fast and had to go buy some more. Another big part of the festival is live performances that happen during the three nights that it goes on for. The first night was a lot of dancing and singing groups created by the students. I think it was a like a contest and it was rumored that the group that got first place would get 500,000 won, or about $500. The groups were very fun to watch and some of them were really good, but I'm not sure who won. The second night was interesting too. From what I could tell, the people performing were from the Yonsei campus in Seoul and they were the Yonsei cheerleaders. They were singing a bunch of what sounded like school songs and all the students seemed to know the dances to them. The third night was the one everyone was looking forward to though. That night, they had eight of professional singers come to the campus and they had a concert. The people that performed were Unmeek, Obroject, Migyo, Ha Dong Kyun, Soya, Geonmin X Heido, Epik High, and Hyuna. The only two that I had heard of before this were Epik High and Hyuna, so I was excited to see them perform, but all of the performers were fun to watch!
Also, on that Friday, before the concert we had our weekly field trip. This week we got to the amusement park, Everland. I had a fun time there too. There was one roller coaster that I had to wait over an hour for, but it was worth it and the person that I was with managed to get a video of our ride. They also had a little zoo inside the park too, so we got to see a bunch of monkeys, birds, some tigers, a sea lion show, and even some pandas.
