There wasn't a whole lot that happened this last week for traveling, however we did start doing our MMS meetings with the Korean students. For these meetings, it's one international student and one Korean student and we have one on one time to help them improve their English. We have free range with deciding how we want to go about it. Since it was the first week, I went to the little coffee shop in Yonsei Plaza named Pandorthy with most of them and we would get something to drink and just talk. The names of my partners are Seo-Jin, Ju-Young, Jin-Won, Seo-Hyun, Dong-Young (Oliver), Ji-Myung (Jimmy), Heung-Won, and Min-Ji. Some of the students have English names, but a lot of them still just go by their Korean names and most of the students know quite a bit of English so there isn't too much of a language barrier. The conversations for most of these meetings revolved around what their family is like, what their major is, and what some of the differences are between the United States and South Korea. Two of my partners (Seo-Jin and Seo-Hyun) actually studied at my home university (St. Cloud State) for a year, so we got to talk about what it was like for them while they were there. We also had our first team meeting. The team meetings consist of about three international students and seven Korean students. So my team members names are Jay, Marisa, Min-Sung (Mino), Min-Jeong, Yu-Seok (Leo), Kyung-Jin (KJ), Green, So-Ui, and Yoon-Kyung. Since it was our first meeting, we did self introductions and had to explain why we chose to be part of the GV Program. We also had to elect our team leader (Mino) and our assistant team leader (Jay). Then we had to come up with a team name, which was the hardest part, but we eventually decided on Fantastic 10. For our little field trip that we had this week, we went to Chuncheon to the immigration office there. We didn't stay for long, we were only there for about an hour while they took our finger prints so we can get our Alien Registration Card. The last thing that I will mention is that a few of the other international students and I booked a flight to Japan! So from May 3rd through May 6th, we will be in Osaka. We don't have a specific plan for when we go yet, but we'll just kind of play it by ear and see where it takes us.
